Meet Your AGENTS
Agents work as a team to ensure minority communities are represented and aim to make the College accessible to everyone.
My role is to create a safe space in college for all students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community by organising events and raising any issues within JCR meetings. I will also work with other colleges and the DU LBGTQ+ society to ensure Durham is a welcoming and inclusive place for all its students and will be part of the Snow LGBTQ+ society!
My role involves welcoming international students, representing the John Snow International society as a whole and organising events and activities that cater to all international students throughout the academic year.
My role involves ensuring students of colour at John Snow feel comfortable to celebrate themselves, specifically their culture at this. One of the main ways is through ensuring all the students of colour at Snow feel welcomed, so feel free to come speak to me at any point this year, whether that be during office hours or any time you see me in Durham. Also, at a university that is not very diverse, I serve to be a safe space to students to talk about their worries as a student from an ethnic background. This role will also involve JSPOCA running events to encourage students to socialise in college or have some time to relax. I will also ensure there are college wide events to celebrate the diversity at Snow and that all students of colour at our college always feel acknowledged either via campaigns, my office hours or through the events we run.
As the Students with Disabilities Agent, my role is to support and champion any member of John Snow who has, or thinks they may have, a disability, whether that be as a listening ear for any of your concerns, or as a bridge to help you get wider support such as through college or DU Welfare. Even if you're unsure who to talk to or where to go, I'm here to help you figure it out and advocate for your needs!
My role as Social Mobility Agent is to provide support and information for students that are working class, first generation, have recieved contextual offers or went to state school. This is so that we can create a strong community of state school/ working class students within John Snow.
I am president of Environmental society, and will have weekly office hours where you can ask questions or come for a chat! I will also help the college to be more sustainable, and organise events/socials for everyone to get involved in.
As your Placement/Year Abroad Agent, I’m here to help people with everything year abroad and placement related, whether it’s before during or after.
